The new millennium ushered in a brief period of bipolar politics, with the PRI and the National Action Party (PAN) alternating periods in power.

Both PRI and PAN represent the corrupt #establishment, so not really bipolar and more like spin-doctoring and kleptocracy.

The biggest concern regarding a possible AMLO victory is his populist discourse. In fact, many fear that AMLO will turn out to be a Mexican Hugo Chavez . This implies that AMLO is, if not Marxist, at least a radical leftist, which is not the case.

That is just repeating the same #propaganda and lies about AMLO who actually has no ties to Chavez. In contrast, #AMLO looks up to the best past presidents of Mexico: Benito Juárez, Francisco I. Madero and Lázaro Cárdenas. Different country, different circumstances.

AMLO's policies will not radically eliminate poverty and corruption.

AMLO has strategically not given full details of his #anticorruption programme, but he represents the best shot against governmental corruption. Obviously, it will take time to undo all the #corrupt practices but one has to look at AMLO's administration as mayor of Mexico City to see how he reduced corruption and crime in one of the most populated cities in the world.

These unions have thwarted all attempts to reform the dysfunctional mechanisms currently in place to train and hire academic staff. AMLO and CNTE are strategic electoral allies, and it is highly unlikely that he will be able to radically reform the system.

These trade unions are never truly autonomous and their leaders are appointed by the government. Once the PRI and PAN (a.k.a. PRIAN) are no longer in power, the political landscape will be different. Moreover, the #education reforms put forward by the #PRIAN were not meant to address educational practices, but to undermine teachers' labour rights. Thus, AMLO will reverse that top-down labour reform and introduce a true education reform to be designed in consultation with teachers and educators. Most importantly, AMLO's education reform will take into account the cultural differences in the different regions of Mexico.

AMLO's platform proposes reinforcing and centralising controls on public expenditure in an effort to reduce corruption in public tenders, with the recovered resources subsequently being invested into social programmes.
Although this measure is likely to succeed, it would only tackle high-level corruption and would leave the systemic corruption in the public administration largely unaddressed.

One of the most important laws that AMLO will introduce is the one that eliminates the political immunity (fuero) of government officials including himself (the president), so that everyone can be sued and tried for corruption and embezzlement even when in office. Again, the details of AMLO's anticorruption programme have not been given for obvious reasons, but they will be comprehensive to fight systemic corruption.

"If AMLO can't do it, nobody can" reads the slogan of his campaign.

Again the author cannot hide his bias against AMLO. This is not the slogan of AMLO's campaign which actually is "Mexico's Hope" (La esperanza de México). Following Mexico's mainstream media propaganda and fear-mongering, the author of this article seems keen to create a feeling of uncertainty and fear about AMLO.

So why do people believe that AMLO is a socialist in spite of both the evidence and his own political discourse?

Short answer: The same sort of media manipulation and propaganda that the author of this article seems to follow.
